Pont des Arts

The place of Vincent’s and Kate’s very first kiss. Pont des Arts means bridge of the arts and is named so because it leads to the Louvre. This pedestrian bridge was built between 1802 and 1804. It was the very first metal bridge in Paris. In 1979 it partially collapsed and was rebuilt almost identically compared to its original plans between 1981 and 1984.

The view from the bridge sweeping from the Institut de France over the Ile de la City with Notre Dame to the gargantuan walls of the Louvre is breathtaking. But the even more inspiring sight can be found on the bridge’s railings. Couples from all over the world come here. They place a locket with their names or initials on it on the metal bars and throw the key into the river. It is said that a couple who does it will stay in love with each other forever. This is just slightly cheesy and all kinds of aww.
