Encyclopedia of Things We Lost Forever – Day 10: Polio

Banksy for the Wimp: Encyclopedia of Things We Lost Forever

Polio is in its final days. The disease that once paralyzed hundreds of thousands of kids worldwide is down to a few dozen cases this year. All transmissions will be stopped by next year. This is for once good news. And it shows what the human mind can accomplished when put to the right problem. It is a victory of vaccination.

Unfortunately, polio will only be the second human disease to be eliminated after Smallpox in 1977. Diseases we thought to have under control in some places at least are making a gruesome comeback because parents endanger their own children and million of people around the world by being outright stupid and not vaccinate. Don’t be a ass, vaccinate!
